Located in the heart of The Opera District in Downtown Dubai, The Opera House is the cultural ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of this modern city. Developed by Emaar Properties as a multi-purpose performance and hosting venue, it is modelled on an Arabian Dhow.
Working closely with the design team and in particular Theatre Projects Consultants, LSI Projects were contracted to deliver both the Sound & Communications and Production Lighting packages. The technical brief for the venue was particularly challenging as the venue had to physically change in order to accommodate ballet, opera, theatre and both amplified and un-amplified performance.
With many years of experience in the Middle East the LSI Projects team, based in Dubai Media City were able to successfully manage the complicated technical, political and logistical details required to deliver such a large project. Additional resources from the U.K. were required for system engineering with specialist input required for lighting and audio DSP programming, IP network deployment and speaker modelling.
“LSI Projects were honoured to be part of such an iconic venue”, comments LSI Projects Director, Bob Peill. “Dubai Opera is a world class venue and our ability to successfully deliver such a complicated project is a credit to the company”, he adds.
Dubai Opera posed many technical challenges. 21st century performing spaces require sustainable technologies which are able to scale to meet future demands.
LSI Projects used many years of project experience to meet these demands. Many systems are IP based, so a comprehensive network infrastructure of multi-modal fibre and copper was installed. Meticulous network planning was required to integrate the audio, video, and lighting systems whilst also liaising with I.T. management to ensure building and specialist systems could co-exist.
