Soho Walthamstow is the landmark redevelopment of the historic Granada Cinema on Hoe Street – richly ornamented Grade II listed building dating back to 1930. Once host to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, the venue has now been transformed into a 960-seat performance space operated by Soho Theatre, expanding their presence beyond London’s West End.
The restored venue combines theatrical heritage with modern functionality, offering a home for comedy, theatre, cinema, pantomime and community events. Careful attention has been paid to conserving original architectural elements – including the Spanish Baroque-influenced auditorium and the Hall of Mirrors foyer – while integrating new infrastructure to meet contemporary performance needs.
Appointed by Willmott Dixon Interiors, LSI Projects designed, supplied, installed, tested and commissioned the Production Lighting and Sound & Communications systems throughout the venue – spanning the auditorium, front of house and backstage areas.

These systems were designed to be flexible and robust, supporting touring productions, community performances and a range of event formats from stand-up comedy to cinema.
Working within a Grade II listed building posed significant challenges. With architectural features protected and construction works impacted by structural limitations and ongoing discoveries during renovation, all technical elements had to be installed with precision, care and minimal visual impact. Close coordination between LSI, DES Electrical and other trades ensured that integration of new infrastructure aligned with restoration efforts, especially in the highly decorative auditorium.
