Having already delivered several successful studio projects for Al Jazeera, LSI Projects were once again entrusted to support the network’s ambitious expansion at their headquarters in Doha. Working alongside a major multinational systems integrator, LSI Projects supplied and installed lighting systems for two new cutting-edge broadcast facilities, designed to commemorate Al Jazeera’s 20-year anniversary.
The scope of work focused on the Doha headquarters, delivering robust, future-ready solutions for the Network Studio Building and Arabic Newsroom.
To achieve a seamless operation across multiple studios, LSI Projects networked multiple ETC Eos Titanium consoles, capable of controlling over 16,000 DMX addresses. This flexible system allows control of multiple studio spaces from a single control room, using Eos software to partition the lighting rigs as required.
At the heart of the system, a primary RPU (Remote Processor Unit) and a dedicated backup ensure continuous operation, with consoles connecting as clients when needed. Further resilience is provided by ETC Conductor, which allows integration with Al Jazeera’s Building Management System for full network monitoring.
Designed by Veech x Veech (VXV), the new Network Studio Building at Al Jazeera’s Doha headquarters offers 1,650m² of studio space and support areas, with an additional 7,450m² of landscaped public space. The architecture eliminates internal walls and partitions to create panoramic, uninterrupted views throughout the studios and surrounding areas.
At the core of this development, the 400m² Network Studio features floor-to-ceiling glass walls and immersive 360º vistas, seamlessly blending the building’s surroundings into the live broadcast environment. Polarisation filters, integrated LED lighting, Augmented Reality elements and high-definition imaging technologies combine to create a fully adaptive and visually stunning platform for storytelling.
Breaking new ground in news production
The Arabic Newsroom further elevates the space with a 1,100m² hybrid layout combining studio and production workplace galleries. Housing three individual sets and up to 100 workstations, the open-plan design integrates immersive 3D graphics, responsive LED surfaces and a 35-metre video wall that synchronises contextual metadata with live newsgathering efforts.
Together, these spaces reflect Al Jazeera’s commitment to redefining how architecture, technology and media converge to create faster, more responsive and visually engaging broadcasts.
