Turning Vision into Venue
Back in October 2013, Aberdeen City Council set out to put the city on the map as a major destination for large-scale events. Their vision was to develop a world-class venue that could host everything from global conferences to live music and exhibitions. That vision became a reality with The Events Complex Aberdeen—now known as P&J Live, named after the local Press & Journal newspaper. The finished space, featuring 48,000 square metres of indoor exhibition space, including a vast underground level, a 9,000 sqm arena and a flexible 6,000 sqm hall that can be split into three. There’s even 10,000 sqm of outdoor space, making it one of the UK’s most versatile event hubs.
LSI Projects were engaged by Theatre Projects Consultants and electrical subcontractor Samson & Strong to design, supply and install the complete Lighting, Sound and AV infrastructure for the complex. This high-profile project demanded robust, flexible systems capable of supporting a wide range of events, from international exhibitions to live concerts and major sporting events. LSI Projects’ scope included production lighting electrical and data containment, power distribution, audio, data and video patching and the installation of comprehensive facility panels throughout the venue.
Working to an extremely tight schedule, LSI Projects completed the major technical installation in just 15 weeks. Attention to detail, rigorous planning and close collaboration with project partners ensured that every element of the infrastructure was delivered to the highest standard, ready for Aberdeen’s new landmark venue to open its doors to the world.
